SafePup is built by KTECH, trading as KCorp ("we", "us"). This page explains, in plain language, what information SafePup handles, why, and what a school or parent can do about it. It's written to be accurate about what the app actually does — not a template. If anything here doesn't match what you see in the app, tell us; that's a bug in this page, not the app.
SafePup is a plain-language description of our practices, not a substitute for legal advice. It's written in good faith to comply with Nigeria's Data Protection Act, 2023.
Who decides what data we collect
A school signs up for SafePup, not a child or a parent. The school — through its office staff — enters the names, classes, and guardian phone numbers of the children in its care, and decides who its teachers, secretaries, and gate staff are. SafePup processes that information to run the service; the school remains responsible for having the right, under its own enrolment agreements with families, to give us that information in the first place.
Guardians never create a SafePup account, never log in, and never hand us anything directly — the only information we hold about a guardian is the phone number their school gave us, used only to text them about their own child.
What we collect
- About the school: its name, address, and contact details, and its subscription status.
- About staff (teachers, secretaries, gate staff, school admins): name, a phone number or username used to sign in, their role, and whether their account is active.
- About students:name, class, daily attendance status, whether they ride the school bus, whether they're allowed to leave the gate unaccompanied, and their guardians' phone numbers.
- Photos, only when a child is collected without a code: a photo of the person collecting them and a photo of the ID they show. This is the one place SafePup photographs anyone — routine pickups with a code involve no photo at all.
- Message records: every SMS and email we send — who it went to, what it said, and whether it was delivered — so a school can see exactly what went out on its behalf, and so we can show what something cost.
Why we collect it
Every piece of information above exists to do one job: confirm a child arrived safely, and confirm who they left with. We don't use anything SafePup holds for advertising, and we don't sell data to anyone, ever.
Who else sees it
We don't sell or rent data to third parties. A small number of specialist services help us actually run SafePup, and see only what's necessary to do their specific job:
- A cloud hosting and database provider, which stores the data described above.
- A cloud photo storage provider, for the no-code pickup photos described above — photos are kept private and only ever viewable through a link that expires in minutes.
- An SMS delivery provider, to actually send the text messages guardians receive.
- An email delivery provider, for account-related emails like password resets.
None of these providers are permitted to use SafePup data for their own purposes — they handle it only to deliver the specific service we've asked for.
How long we keep it
Pickup photos are deleted automatically 90 days after the day they were taken — long enough to resolve a genuine question about that afternoon, not long enough to become an archive. The record that a release happened (who, when, by what method) is kept for the school's own history; only the photograph itself is removed.
Everything else — attendance history, student and staff records, message logs — is kept for as long as the school has an active SafePup account, so the school retains its own historical records. If a school closes its account, or a parent or staff member asks us to remove their information, contact us (below) and we'll act on it.
How it's kept safe
Every school's data is walled off from every other school's — a member of staff can only ever see the children and records that belong to their own school. Signing in uses a secure, private session that JavaScript on the page can't read. Everything travels encrypted. SafePup's own most powerful account is additionally restricted to a specific, named email address, on top of its normal login check.
Children's information specifically
We know most of what SafePup holds is about children. Children never interact with SafePup directly — no account, no login, nothing asked of them. Every detail about a child is provided by their school, used only to run the arrival and pickup checks described above, and never used for anything else, including marketing of any kind.
Your choices
A parent who wants to know what SafePup holds about their child, correct something, or have it removed should start with their child's school, since the school controls that data. If that doesn't resolve it, or if you're a school with a request of your own, message us directly — see below.
Changes to this policy
If this changes in any way that matters, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use SafePup after a change means you've accepted it.
